I was honoured to speak at the Academic Leadership Conclave 2026, hosted by the Dr. Kakarla Subba Rao Centre for Healthcare Management, Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), Hyderabad – alongside Dr. Kamalakar Karamcheti, Medical Director, Ramdevrao Hospital.

The theme – “The Role of Colleges in a Changing Workforce: Preparing Graduates for Emerging Careers” – could not be more timely. What separates graduates who thrive from those who merely survive? The answer is never the degree alone.

Here are the 12 qualities that define a truly future-ready professional:

1. Agility – Adapt quickly. Embrace change as opportunity, not disruption.
2. Positive Attitude – If A=1, B=2… Attitude = 100.
3. Communication – Listen actively, assert clearly. Trust is built through every conversation.
4. Discipline – Of thoughts, words, deeds, and how you use resources.
5. Ethical Values – Character, integrity, and trust. Live them privately and publicly.
6. Involvement – Stay connected to your people even after you delegate.
7. Personal Organisation – Plan, prioritise, and manage your time with intention.
8. Respecting – Everyone, independent of age, income, education, or hierarchy.
9. Relationships – Give 100%. Build them on empathy, humility, and patience.
10. Sense of Humour – Thoughtful humour makes you more human and more effective.
11. Sensitivity – Make people feel seen, heard, and valued.
12. Stamina – Sustained energy is a core leadership requirement, not a bonus.

Be Self-Confident – like a crumpled ?100 note, your value never changes
Cultivate People – build relationships, develop others, serve generously
